| Welcome to our latest gas newsletter.
First of all, I’d like to say thank you to all of you who I had the chance to catch up with at one of our many events across Europe over the last few months. As we aim to build markets together with our local partners and communities, it is important to regularly re-engage and exchange ideas in person and we hope that these platforms also provide a good opportunity for you to understand more about our markets and products, and our future plans.
Talking about products, we are excited to introduce new maturities for selected natural gas markets, which will be available before the end of this year. This is a natural evolution following the positive development of liquidity. The new maturities both in our regulated market and OTF will provide for additional trading and hedging possibilities down the curve.
EEX is not only committed to existing markets but also focusing on new approaches and alternatives. In the summer, we announced HYDRIX, our dedicated index for the hydrogen markets, which uniquely considers both production and consumer sides. In today’s newsletter, we’d like to provide you with a short overview of how HYDRIX can help you make an informed decision once it comes to the green hydrogen markets.
Informed decisions are also key in all sectors. With LNG growing in importance, I can’t emphasise enough, and I’m sure you all agree with me, that risk management is essential. The good news is that tools needed to minimise risks are already here and accurate analysis and insightful forecast are available. I encourage you to learn more about how to prepare for the changing LNG ecosystem in today’s newsletter.

Natural Gas: EEX launches new expiries
|
| EEX announced the extension of tradable maturities for natural gas derivatives, to be available from 11 December 2023.
The new expiries will complement EEX’s natural gas maturities product line introduced earlier in the year on selected markets, allowing EEX to offer a full suite to enable a wide range of long-term trading and hedging options across key markets.

ZEE and ZTP gas market merger
|
| Following the regulatory approval of the Belgian gas regulator, CREG, to merge ZEE and ZTP gas market areas from 1 October 2023, EEX deactivated all ZEE contracts with gas delivery on or after 1 October 2023 on the exchange.

Market Update

In September, EEX gas market volumes mostly remained at a level similar to the high volumes of last year. This was due to the slight decrease seen on spot markets and the growth in the field of derivatives. Find out more in our Gas Market Update.
